This could really mess up your old settlements if you had used mods to build them. If you had mods installed during the old saves but do not currently have them installed, or the mods have had significant updates/changes, the items you obtained with the old mod may not be available, be broken, or may even become invisible but still be there. I think it added in more old saves off the cloud because there are more than I had pasted in. This is how the save folder looks now after resynchronizing. You dont need to do this if you only play Fallout 4 from one PC BUT it does provide a redundant backup in case of a harddrive crash, go to a friend’s house and play, or install Fallout 4 on a new PC. I also loaded an old save to make sure they were playable and they were.Ĥ) With the game running, I rechecked the box so that my old saves would synchronize with the Steam Cloud. Then I exited the game to desktop and relaunched it to confirm the old saves would still be there, and they are!īelow are the steps I did to restore the old saves:ġ) I copied the old saves from their folder and pasted them into the save game folder for Fallout 4Ģ) Then I unchecked this box under the Steam > Settings > Cloud tabģ) I launched the Fallout 4 game and confirmed I could select all of my old characters and their old saves were available. With the game running, I alt-tabbed out, went back in and rechecked the synchronize button. After I reloaded the game the saves where there and I could select my old characters. So what I did was I exited the game to desktop, went into steam and unchecked the synchronize button. The characters didnt show up and the old saves didnt show up in the “show all saves” list. After doing this they did not show up in the game.

So I tried copying my old saves and pasting them into the save folder for Fallout 4. I wanted to see if completing the quest chain for any particular faction had any effect on the Far Harbor play through.īut I didnt want to run 4 new characters through each of the factions.

I hypothesized nothing would be different, but I just wanted to test it out. Well today, I had the bright idea of running a character from each faction through Far Harbor when it comes out. I wanted a fresh install with no mods to play through. I made a backup of all my saves just prior to Automatron coming out.
